JOSEPH A. LONGO III, M.D.

Dr. Joseph Longo is an orthopedic surgeon who believes in exploring less aggressive alternatives before recommending joint replacement. When replacement is the best solution, however, Dr. Longo delivers the latest in surgical and implant techniques, such as minimally invasive surgery, X-ray guided surgery, and the use of wear-resistant alternative bearings such as ceramic-ceramic or metal-metal.

Dr. Longo is a graduate of the University of Arizona Medical School and served as a surgical intern in the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Program. In addition, he completed an orthopedic fellowship at the Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center in Seattle in 1984, and was chosen as an orthopedic research fellow at the Harrington Arthritis Research Center in Phoenix the following year. Dr. Longo completed his studies at the Phoenix Orthopedic Residency Training Program and has maintained his affiliation as a clinical instructor.

Dr. Longo is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also an avid researcher and speaker, with many studies, publications, presentations, and patents to his credit. Dr. Longo currently is chairman of surgery at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn and is co-medical chairman for Joint Replacement Services.
